Stories of Openness<\/span><\/i><\/a>, which officially debuts today,\u00a0features\u00a0conversations with Deakin academics who have created open textbooks and other Open Educational Resources (OER).\u00a0The show is hosted by\u00a0<\/span>Lauren Halcomb-Smith<\/span><\/a>, and the\u00a0first three episodes\u00a0are\u00a0now available:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Podcasting as a research method<\/h2>\n

Stories of Openness<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0is part of an ongoing research project exploring the impact that Library-funded OER are having on learning and teaching at Deakin, from the perspective of the academics who created them. Podcasting as a research method is an emerging approach to qualitative research that flips the traditional closed-room interview into an openly shareable artefact, whilst still generating rich qualitative data. Both the episode recording and its transcript are shared as open data. Collaboration in practice<\/h2>\n

Open education is fundamentally a collaborative practice.\u00a0The launch of this podcast\u00a0is the result of a collaborative effort involving the generosity and\u00a0expertise\u00a0of several colleagues.\u00a0The podcast is produced by\u00a0Eddie\u00a0Pavuna\u00a0(Scholarly Services Librarian), who also supports the research project.\u00a0Sarah Fennelly\u00a0(Visual Design Lead, Deakin Library)\u00a0created our\u00a0artwork\u00a0and\u00a0our webpage was built by\u00a0Rachael Wilson\u00a0(Lead, Digital Content and User Experience, Deakin Library) and Matthew Lyons (Web Developer, Deakin Library).\u00a0Open publishing would not be possible without the essential contributions of the Deakin Copyright Office.
