The Open Education Team is thrilled to announce the upcoming publication of our newest OER, ‘<\/span><\/span>Sustainable Marine Futures<\/span><\/span><\/a>‘<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Led by Dr.\u00a0Patricia Corbett\u00a0from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, this\u00a0fully\u00a0open and interactive\u00a0book explores\u00a0how ocean science, sustainability,\u00a0policy\u00a0and community intersect to address key marine challenges, from climate change to food security. By integrating global,\u00a0national\u00a0and local Australian perspectives,\u00a0Dr. Corbett\u00a0and her\u00a0expert contributors\u00a0have\u00a0crafted\u00a0an engaging,\u00a0informative\u00a0and accessible resource\u00a0to build ocean literacy locally and internationally.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the spirit of elevating and capturing the voices\u00a0of future industry professionals, this OER has been informed,\u00a0refined\u00a0and updated to reflect\u00a0evolving industry policy and practice as well as the\u00a0needs and ideas of\u00a0students undertaking the SLE243 Sustainable Marine Management unit at Deakin. As an authentic collaborative venture, this OER proudly incorporates and acknowledges specific\u00a0contributions from\u00a0current Deakin graduates\u00a0Ms. Nikita\u00a0Dubberley, Ms. Lughaidh Kennedy,\u00a0Miss Gabriella Milonas, Miss Georgia Williams, and Mr. Timothy Vincent.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It was so fantastic to work with current and past Deakin students to co-develop interactive content for this textbook. The team worked with the broader student community to create interactive H5P content that students want to engage with. I feel fortunate to have worked with a fantastic team (Nikita, Lui, Gabby, Georgia and Tim), thank you for your contribution \u2013 <\/span><\/i>Dr.\u00a0Patricia\u00a0Corbett\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

‘Sustainable Marine Futures’ has been actively integrated into SLE243 since 2024, and after careful refinement and rounds of student feedback, the team is proud to publicly release this OER under a creative commons license for use by everyone. Further chapters are scheduled for release, pending final reviews and checks in the first half of 2026, so keep an eye out for further information and upcoming press releases. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
