Happy International Open Access Week! <\/span>Previously we <\/span>introduced<\/span> you to<\/span> <\/span>the fundamentals of open access<\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/a> explored <\/span><\/span>open <\/span>educational resources<\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/a> open <\/span>research publications<\/span><\/span><\/a> and <\/span><\/span>how AI is impacting<\/span> open knowledge practices<\/span><\/span><\/a>. <\/span>This post, authored by guest contributor <\/span>Clare, <\/span>C<\/span>lient <\/span>E<\/span>xperience <\/span>L<\/span>ibrarian by day and community archivist by night<\/span>,<\/span> delves <\/span>into<\/span> some <\/span>different ways<\/span> Deakin Library<\/span> supports researchers and students in <\/span>opening up<\/span> and expanding the reach of their work, thereby making research more accessible to communities <\/span>within and beyond academia.<\/span> Clare provides<\/span> examples, resources, tips and insights <\/span>from Library staff and <\/span>our <\/span><\/span>Open Access Week event<\/span><\/span><\/a> panellists <\/span>into how and why the answer to the question<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>‘Who Owns Our Knowledge<\/span>?’<\/span><\/span><\/a> could be: ‘your communities.’<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Public programs<\/span> and<\/span> e<\/span>xhibitions<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Our Library Public Programs and Exhibitions team elevates the voices and stories of marginalised members of our community and helps make research visible and accessible within communities through their partnership-driven work.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They commissioned Lowell Hunter, a Nyul Nyul Saltwater man, and an artist known as the SaltyOne, to create an artwork outside the Deakin Library Prime Ministerial Library, as part of <\/span>The Fire Within <\/span><\/i>exhibition in 2024. When speaking of the work he created for the exhibition, Hunter said, \u201cbeing able to create a story, in a building like this, I think is important, because it\u2019s about bringing culture into these places, and showing we are still here, we\u2019re still very proud and strong in our identity, in our culture, and who we are. The story that I am telling is true to who I am, and what I\u2019ve learned from my elders. It\u2019s really important for me to be able to carry on with that legacy and responsibility, so that\u2019s what I\u2019m doing now, being able to work with the Deakin Motion Lab and Deakin Library, and they\u2019ve been amazing in helping me bring this vision to life.” <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
