{"id":6593,"date":"2025-10-15T10:51:48","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T23:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.deakin.edu.au\/article\/?p=6593"},"modified":"2025-10-15T10:51:48","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T23:51:48","slug":"celebrating-inclusive-assessment-spotlight-on-joanna-tais-oer-leading-assessment-for-inclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.deakin.edu.au\/article\/celebrating-inclusive-assessment-spotlight-on-joanna-tais-oer-leading-assessment-for-inclusion\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating inclusive assessment: spotlight on Joanna Tai\u2019s OER \u201cLeading Assessment for Inclusion\u201d\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Welcome Open Ed News, a dedicated space in the Deakin Library\u2019s blog, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.deakin.edu.au\/article\/\">Article<\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, for celebrating, showcasing, and raising awareness about Open Education at Deakin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This month, we are delighted to spotlight an outstanding Open Educational Resource (OER), published through the Library\u2019s OER publishing service: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oercollective.caul.edu.au\/leading-assessment-inclusion\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Leading Assessment for Inclusion<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Developed by Associate Professor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/experts.deakin.edu.au\/36930-joanna-tai\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Joanna Tai<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (CRADLE) in collaboration with colleagues from Central Queensland University and Massey University, this resource champions a vital message: assessment design should begin with inclusion. Moreover, by releasing it under a Creative Commons licence, Joanna and her team ensure that educators everywhere are free to retain, reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute the resource.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to Joanna, \u201cthere are many little things people can do that actually make a big difference for what students experience and how students experience higher education.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.deakin.edu.au\/cradle\/leading-assessment-for-inclusion-a-new-resource\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">CRADLE News<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, 1 May 2025). <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oercollective.caul.edu.au\/leading-assessment-inclusion\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Leading Assessment for Inclusion<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> addresses this idea and questions such as:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What does \u201cassessment for inclusion\u201d mean, and why does it matter?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What does inclusive assessment look like in practice, across different contexts?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What opportunities and challenges arise when trying to change assessment practices?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Who is responsible for promoting assessment for inclusion, and how can everyone play a role?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The development of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oercollective.caul.edu.au\/leading-assessment-inclusion\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Leading Assessment for Inclusion<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> was made possible through Deakin\u2019s OER Grant program, extending an earlier Council of Australasian University Leaders in Learning and Teaching <\/span>(<span data-contrast=\"auto\">CAULLT) funded project. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To learn more about how Joanna and the team created the resource, watch this short video (5:00 min): <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.au.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=793f8b68-4f1d-4993-9820-b23c00037ba0\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Leading Assessment for Inclusion <\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(available via Panopto, for Deakin users only).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We celebrate Joanna and her team for their commitment to openness, collaboration, and inclusive education and for making <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oercollective.caul.edu.au\/leading-assessment-inclusion\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Leading Assessment for Inclusion<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> freely available to all.
