Read-and-publish agreements with caps limit the number of articles that can be published open access through the agreement. Once a cap is exceeded, articles are published with subscription (closed) access unless the authors elect to pay the open access <\/span>APC<\/span><\/a> themselves. It is usually the acceptance date of the article that determines eligibility for the yearly cap. CAUL tracks the articles that are published through our agreements and forecasts <\/span>when the caps are likely to be reached<\/span><\/a>, based on publishing trends.<\/span><\/p>\n For articles that miss out on open access and are published with subscription access, we recommend depositing the accepted manuscript version to Elements using <\/span>free repository (green) open access<\/span><\/a> in DRO after any applicable publisher embargo.<\/span><\/p>\n Read-and-publish agreements are when libraries pay a flat fee to cover both subscription access to journal content and the open access publication costs for their authors. Deakin Library participates in sixteen read-and-publish agreements negotiated by the <\/span>Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL)<\/span><\/a> consortium, which means corresponding authors at Deakin don\u2019t have to pay open access <\/span>APCs<\/span><\/a> in the included journals. Some agreements only include journals where open access is optional (hybrid journals), and some also include fully open access (gold) journals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n For more information on read-and-publish publishers and journals, check out the <\/span>Open Access: Publishing Agreements guide<\/span><\/a>. This update, inspired by user research and feedback, will bring a fresh look and new functionality.
