Each month we\u2019ll feature topics of interest to researchers, a roundup of research-related events, and other news to support the library\u2019s commitment to partnering with researchers.<\/p>\n<h4>In this issue<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#research-metrics-for-academic-promotion\">Feature item: Research metrics for academic promotion<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#hot-tip-may\">Hot tip: Research metrics dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#event-roundup-may\">Event roundup for May<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"research-metrics-for-academic-promotion\">Research metrics for academic promotion<\/h2>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin365.sharepoint.com\/sites\/CareeratDeakin\/SitePages\/Academic-Promotions.aspx\">Academic Promotions<\/a> season approaching, we have prepared a handy list of steps to ensure researchers are prepared and to make it easier to access information about your research metrics and author profiles.<\/p>\n<h4>1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date author profiles<\/h4>\n<p>A well-maintained author profile not only enhances your professional credibility but also facilitates the discovery of your work by colleagues, collaborators and potential employers. We strongly recommend that you review and ensure the completeness of your <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.libguides.com\/research-author-profile\">author profiles<\/a> across platforms such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Elements<\/strong>: ensure your publications are claimed and deposited in <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.libguides.com\/research-author-profile\/deakin-profiles\">Elements<\/a>. The data in Elements feeds into the <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.libguides.com\/research-author-profile\/deakin-profiles\">Deakin Staff Profiles<\/a> and DRO (Deakin\u2019s Research Repository). <em>Consider letting <\/em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deakin.edu.au\/library\/help\/chat-with-us\">Library Help<\/a> know you are applying for promotion; this will allow them to prioritise the review of your outputs in Elements, DRO and your staff profiles. This will be treated with confidentiality.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Scholar<\/strong>: you are required to include the link to your <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.libguides.com\/research-author-profile\/google-scholar\">Google Scholar<\/a> profile in the <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin365.sharepoint.com\/sites\/CareeratDeakin\/SitePages\/Academic-Promotions.aspx#application-templates\">Statement of Achievement<\/a> in your application.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ORCID<\/strong>: create your unique <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.libguides.com\/research-author-profile\/ORCID\">ORCID ID<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deakin.edu.au\/library\/research\/orcid\/managing-your-elements-and-orcid-accounts\">connect it to your Deakin Elements profile<\/a>. This will enhance the ability of Elements to find and match your publications.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scopus<\/strong>: ensure your <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.libguides.com\/research-author-profile\/scopus\">Scopus Author Profile<\/a> accurately includes all your publications indexed in Scopus. Then, add your Scopus author ID to the <a href=\"https:\/\/elements.deakin.edu.au\/publishingidentity.html\">automatic claiming<\/a> section of your Elements profile. This step will facilitate obtaining accurate Scopus metrics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>2. Access the Research Metrics Dashboard<\/h4>\n<p>To assist you in understanding and showcasing your publication metrics effectively, please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.deakin.edu.au\/library\/research-metrics-dashboard\/\">Research Metrics Dashboard<\/a>. Here, you can access comprehensive insights into the list of your publications from Elements, their citation counts and journal rankings. It also provides a summary report of your publications and metrics, based on your Scopus author profile.<\/p>\n<h4>3. Use altmetrics<\/h4>\n<p>It\u2019s important for researchers to have a holistic picture of their metrics. In today&#8217;s diverse scholarly landscape, traditional metrics like citation counts are complemented by <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.libguides.com\/research-metrics\/altmetrics\">altmetrics<\/a>, which capture the broader impact of research across various platforms and social media channels. Deakin University maintains institutional subscriptions to <a href=\"https:\/\/app-overton-io.ezproxy-b.deakin.edu.au\/ui\/auth\/login\">Overton<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altmetric.com\/explorer\/highlights?scope=all\">Altmetric Explorer<\/a>. These powerful altmetrics tools enable you to track and analyse the visibility and influence of your research across a wide range of sources, including social media mentions, news coverage, policy documents and more.<\/p>\n<h4>4. Explore additional research metrics<\/h4>\n<p>Explore our <a href=\"https:\/\/deakin.libguides.com\/research-metrics\">Research Metrics Toolkit<\/a><u>,<\/u> which provides valuable information and tools to help you understand and effectively utilise various research metrics.
