Friday 25 August <\/span>is <\/span>Wear It Purple Day!<\/span><\/a> Wear It Purple Day is about the whole community supporting and standing with LGBTQIA+ young people, and working to create supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for them. The movement <\/span>was founded in 2010 in response to global stories of several rainbow young people who took their own lives following bullying and harassment resulting from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity. The theme for this year is <\/span>Write your story<\/span><\/a> and the website eloquently illustrates why this is important:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

‘For young people who identify as LGBTQIA+, the theme represents the importance of taking ownership of their narratives and to share their experiences in their own voices. This process of storytelling can be empowering and affirming and by speaking from their hearts, young people can also contribute to a broader cultural shift towards greater acceptance and visibility for LGBTQIA+ individuals.’<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
