{"id":2627,"date":"2019-10-25T12:05:40","date_gmt":"2019-10-25T01:05:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.deakin.edu.au\/article\/?p=2627"},"modified":"2019-10-25T12:07:22","modified_gmt":"2019-10-25T01:07:22","slug":"national-performing-arts-heritage-conference-comes-to-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.deakin.edu.au\/article\/national-performing-arts-heritage-conference-comes-to-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"National Performing Arts Heritage Conference comes to Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From 6\u20138 November, Deakin University is hosting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amaga.org.au\/events\/performing-arts-heritage-network-pahn-conference-full-conference\"><strong>2019 Performing Arts Heritage Network (PAHN) Conference<\/strong><\/a> in the Western Beach Room on the Waterfront Campus. Two days of presentations from historians, archivists, researchers and arts practitioners will culminate in a walking tour of Geelong\u2019s arts and heritage institutions on the third and final day. Venues include <strong>Back to Back Theatre, Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) and the Geelong Heritage Centre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Our University Librarian, Craig Anderson, will open the conference, which is also supported by Deakin University Library.<\/p>\n<p>PAHN \u2013 a National Network affiliated with the Australian Museums and Galleries Association \u2013 is dedicated to the <strong>collection, preservation and continued accessibility of Australia\u2019s performance histories<\/strong>. There will also be round table discussions to accommodate lightning talks and last-minute contributions.<\/p>\n<p>The University\u2019s Geelong campus is the ideal venue for PAHN. <strong>Drama, theatre and performance studies<\/strong> have been on the curriculum at Deakin since its beginnings in the late 1970s. Many graduates have gone on to successful careers in the arts and entertainment industries, including <strong>Rachel Griffiths and comedian Tommy Little<\/strong> (The Project). Deakin\u2019s professional theatre companies, The Mill Theatre and The Woolly Jumpers, helped to redefine community theatre in Melbourne, and in the process spawned a generation of influential local and international performers and companies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deakin has also been heavily involved with GPAC from its inception until the present day<\/strong>.
