Explore our new Voice to Parliament resource guide

Deakin University has released a Resource Guide on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament Referendum. With the referendum to take place later this year, understanding the context of the Voice to Parliament proposal and the various viewpoints will help as you consider your vote.

This dedicated resource brings together information about the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament and the upcoming referendum. It prioritises First Nations voices from both the ‘Yes’ and the ‘No’ perspectives, and supports open, balanced and respectful community debate around issues of the Voice to Parliament.

The guide provides background to the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the journey to the Referendum, details of the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ campaigns, detail on what a referendum is and how to enrol to vote.

How was the guide curated?

A team from Deakin University Library designed the guide and will curate the content. It considers perspectives from both sides of the debate and draws on a range of material including videos, podcasts, media and books. The team consulted widely and sought advice from the Manager, Indigenous Inclusion.

How will the guide be maintained?

The team will continue to monitor the debate and the update the guide as new information becomes available.

What next?

In the lead up to the referendum, Deakin Library and the Deakin Office of Indigenous Strategy and Innovation will host a monthly book club for students and staff. This will be an opportunity to join with your Deakin community to discuss texts and documentaries relating to the Voice to Parliament. You can register your interest here.
