Get to know the Library with Introductory Modules
We’re excited to share our new Library Introductory Modules. These self-paced modules are designed to help students build essential academic skills, from navigating Library services to finding quality resources for their assessments.
Developed in D2L, the modules can be easily embedded into your unit site, giving students timely Library support whenever they need it throughout the trimester. They support students in navigating key discovery platforms, including Library Advanced Search and EBSCOhost databases.
The key benefits of the Library Introductory Modules include:

Module 1: Welcome to the Library

This bite-sized orientation module takes 5 minutes and introduces students to:
- Key Library services, spaces and support
- How to access unit materials
- Where to get help, both online and on campus
Ideal for both first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students who are new to the Library.
Module 2: Finding resources

This scaffolded module includes three topics that will help students build their digital literacy skills:
- Plan your search: Learn the steps to structure an academic search using a search planner
- Run and refine your search: Develop effective searching skills through Library Advanced Search and databases, including EBSCOhost’s updated platform
- Evaluate and use resources: Understand how to evaluate and reference resources for their assessments.
Designed for first-year undergraduates, but also useful as a refresher for second- or third-year students.
Module 3: Types of resources

This module introduces students to the variety of information sources they’ll use throughout their studies. Students will:
- Learn about key resources, including books, eBooks and peer-reviewed journal articles.
- Discover Library learning resources such as Resource Guides, the First Nations Hub and the GenAI Hub.
- Understand the differences between primary and secondary sources, including common examples used across disciplines.
Suitable for any student cohorts where guidance on academic resource types is needed.

To explore the modules before embedding them into your unit site, unit staff can self-register for the Library Digital Portfolio in D2L.
How to self-register
- Log in to CloudDeakin D2L and select Self Registration
- Search for Library digital portfolio. Click on the title and select Enroll in Site
- Open the site and select the Library introduction modules tile
