Join the Library Debate Team for Open Access Week
The library is looking for enthusiastic volunteers from the research community to join the debate team for The Great Copyright Debate: What if there was no copyright in scholarly works?, an Open Access Week 2024 event.
As a team member, you’ll engage in a lively, thought-provoking, and fun debate (think pub trivia style meets high school debating). The event is at 3pm on Thursday 24 October at Foo Moo Café, Deakin Burwood Campus. There will also be a short briefing meeting to attend in early October. Whether you are a seasoned researcher, an early-career academic, or just a passionate advocate for open access, we would love to have you join in the fun. No prior debate experience is required or expected.
If you’re keen to join the team, please contact Astrid Bovell at [email protected] by 27 September 2024.
Imagine a world where scholarly works are freely accessible to everyone for any purpose immediately, without cost and without rights. How would this impact the dissemination and progress of research, the recognition of authors, the publishing industry, libraries and universities? Come help us tear apart the conventional concepts of rights ownership in academic publishing in a fun and lively discussion!
Not keen on being part of the team? Please register to watch the fun unfold as member of our lively audience.
