Essential Reads for Lesbian Visibility Week
This week marks Lesbian Visibility Week, a week to raise awareness of the issues faced by lesbians and LBTQ+ women. It aims to increase visibility, foster acceptance, and address the unique challenges faced by lesbians and queer women. It also strives to support lesbians and educate the broader community about the importance of visibility and the need to combat discrimination.

Fiction
- Legends & lattes by Travis Baldree. “This book is dedicated to anyone who wondered where the other road led. I would highly recommend it to anyone experiencing burnout and/or contemplating or embarking on a career change! I read it just after starting at Deakin! It’s a delightfully cozy fantasy book with a dash of cute sapphic romance.”
- Annie on my mind by Nancy Garden
- About a girl by Joanne Horniman
- Everyone in this room will someday be dead – Emily Austin. “This book is so real, vividly accurate and surprisingly funny fictional representation of anxiety and depression.” – Clare
- Peta Lyre’s rating normal by Anna Whateley
- Devotion by Hannah Kent
- Gideon the ninth by Tamsyn Muir
- The dawnhounds – Sascha Stronach. “Brilliant debut novel from Māori author Sascha Stronach featuring magic queer pirates, mushrooms, biotech and more set in Aotearoa. Read it now and get excited about the sequel coming very soon!”
- Oranges are not the only fruit by Jeanette Winterson
- Zami: a new spelling of my name by Audre Lorde
Non-fiction
- Ghost wife: a memoir of love and defiance by Michelle Dicinoski. “I loved the way Dicinoski weaved local, family, personal and queer histories together. This book was a very formative gateway to Australian queer histories for me”
