Enter the 2026 Library Artwork Competition

What does the library mean to you?
Enter the competition to create an artwork that will be used across Deakin Library in 2026, including on the OWeek library bag! 

Create an artwork or design that will be printed on black fabric tote bags, notebooks, signage and more. Your design could reflect: 

The Library artwork design competition commences at 9.00am on 1 September 2025. This competition is open to all current Deakin students.

Submit your entry through the competition entry form by midnight on Sunday, 26 October 2025. 

Last year’s winner:

Last year’s winning artwork was created by student and illustrator Maiya Steele, a Bachelor of Arts student majoring in literature. “My friends and I have always made an effort to come to the Library. For me, it’s the only place where I can stay connected by studying and pursuing my degree. It’s also a place where my friends and I can nurture our friendships,” shared Maya.   

Design 

The artwork must be an original piece created by the student.  

The design must fit inside an A4 printable area on the bag via digital printing, and it can be multi-coloured.   

The submitted artwork must be in a high-resolution format ready to print, preferably at 300dpi.   

The original and final artwork must be submitted to Deakin Library by the competition conclusion date and time, and be submitted via the competition entry form. 

Judging  

Entries to the competition will be judged by a panel of Deakin Library staff. The winner of the competition will be chosen by judges based on merit and fulfilment of the competition guidelines.  

The winner will be notified by email by Friday, 31 October 2025.

Use of winning artwork image  

The artist will retain copyright of the artwork. Deakin University reserves the right to use the winning artwork including, but not limited to, being reproduced in formats such as printed on tote bags, and other collateral, signage, displayed on library digital screens, published on the library website and reproduced in library communications – in 2026 and into the future. In 2026, select entries, including the winning entry, will also be featured in an exhibition at the Waurn Ponds Campus Library. 

Prize  

The winning artist will receive an artist fee of $1000.  

For this to be paid, the student must provide a tax invoice. Students will need an ABN to create an invoice, which they can obtain for free online.
