Deakin University joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

Deakin University has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) this month, becoming the Coalition’s newest Associate Member.

Deakin Library has an extensive collection of information resources to support the University’s teaching, learning and research activities, including 1,600,000 online resources and more than 771,000 resources in physical collections. In the forthcoming period, the library will play an important role in developing Deakin’s approach to digital preservation – especially as it relates to special collections, archives, records and research outputs.

Robin Wright, DPC’s Head of Australasia and Asia-Pacific, welcomed Deakin University to the Coalition, saying: ‘We are very excited that Deakin is joining the local DPC community. The Deakin Library has a strong commitment to the effective management and preservation of digital content, and we look forward to their participation in DPC Australasia and Asia-Pacific activities.’

‘Deakin University Library is supportive of the valuable work undertaken by the DPC in building capability, awareness and community around the important issue of digital preservation,’ says Jane Miller, Director of Library Services (Information) at Deakin University. ‘Membership is an opportunity for Deakin to learn, share ideas and participate in the work of the Coalition in a more formal way and understand more about the knowledge and infrastructure requirements of a sustainable digital preservation ecosystem.’

The DPC is an international charitable foundation that supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
