Build stronger research skills with Advanced Literature Searching

Conducting a high‑quality literature review is a critical step in any research project, yet finding relevant, credible and comprehensive sources can be challenging. Deakin Library’s Advanced Literature Searching workshop is designed to help students and staff build confidence and capability in navigating complex research landscapes.

In this interactive online session, you’ll develop strategies for selecting the most appropriate databases and information sources for your discipline, and learn how to make the most of advanced search features to improve both efficiency and precision. The workshop will also cover ways to structure and manage your search techniques, enabling you to adapt your approach as your research evolves.

You’ll gain practical tips for undertaking comprehensive literature searches that help position your project within the existing body of research, as well as techniques for uncovering hard‑to‑find or less visible sources. These skills are particularly valuable for higher‑level research projects, including theses, systematic or scoping reviews and grant applications.
