automatic renewals

Automatic renewals have launched at the library

There’s enough to keep track of when you’re a uni student, and one of our goals in the library is to make managing your studies at Deakin as smooth as possible. So, if you’re tired of logging in to check your library loans and renew those essential texts, we have great news for you!

Starting now, eligible items you check out from the library will be automatically renewed, providing no one else has requested them.

What does this mean?

Four days before your eligible items are due, you’ll receive an email informing you they have been automatically renewed. If your items have had holds placed on them by another user, this email will inform you that your items are due to be returned.

The email will look something like the below:

What items are eligible?

General and 7-day loans not requested by other library users (i.e. without a hold) can be auto-renewed.

How many times will items be renewed?

In general, eligible items that don’t receive hold requests from other users will be renewed automatically for approximately one year. They will then need to be returned.

How do I get a book that is on loan?

If you want to borrow a book that is currently on loan, it’s important that you request it rather than waiting to see when it gets returned. Remember, now that loans are renewed automatically, there is a good chance the book will only be returned to the library once another user has requested it. Don’t wait! Request the resource you need and you’ll be put in the queue and alerted when it has been returned.

You can find out more about exact borrowing timeframes and item limits by visiting our Borrow from our libraries webpage.
