24 May is National Simultaneous Storytime!
Deakin Library is pleased to announce that we will again be joining National Simultaneous Storytime this year!
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
In 2023 NSS will be held at 11am on Wednesday 24 May and will feature the book The Speedy Sloth, written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Heath McKenzie. Rebecca will read the book from a livestreamed event at The Sydney Zoo, that will also feature a drawing lesson from Heath and a special appearance from some of the Sydney Zoo residents. Other VIP guest readers this year include TV presenter Grant Denyer and Children’s Laureate Gabrielle Wang.
You’ll find the book in our CRC collection.
It was finally time for the event of the year,
Spike couldn’t believe it—
THE GREAT RACE was here!
The other sloths said it couldn’t be done,
but Spike didn’t care, she was ready to run!
How you can participate:
- Reach out to your local public library / childcare centre / primary school library and find out how they are celebrating NSS. You could even run NSS at home!
- If you’re going to hold NSS at home, don’t forget to register to participate.
