Gillian Tan

Gillian TanGillian is Lecturer in Anthropology at Deakin University. She received her Ph.D from the University of Melbourne and has held several postdoctoral research fellowships, most notably at the Laboratoire d’Anthropologie Sociale where she worked under the direction of Philippe Descola. Her research, based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork in eastern Tibet, elucidates the multiple ways in which people understand, and live in, their worlds. Her field of expertise covers 1) contemporary social and environmental changes on the Tibetan plateau, 2) human-nonhuman relationships among Tibetan nomadic pastoralists, and 3) theoretical and practical intersections between ecology and religiosity.
