Wadawurrung women Melinda Kennedy is the successful recipient of a 2 year scholarship to undertake a Masters by Research degree at Deakin University.

Awarded just before Xmas 2018, following on from her successful completion of a Graduate Diploma of Natural and Cultural Resource Management at Deakin, the research brief seeks to examine the position of Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Australian tertiary professionally accredited courses in the built environment sector (architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning), what is transpiring, what changes could be entertained, and how to facilitate this transformation towards ensuring culturally attuned and Indigenous respectful outcomes.

The scholarship is jointly funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government’s Department of Education & Training + Deakin University’s Faculty of Science Engineering & Built Environment. The research follows on from a Commonwealth Office of Learning & Teaching project that resulted in the publication of ‘Indigenous Knowledge in the Built Environment: A Guide for Tertiary Educators’ (2018)

The research is being pursued under the supervision of Dr’s Richard Tucker and David Jones in the School of Architecture & Built Environment at Deakin University, and any inquiries should be directed to [email protected].
