Tomorrow night, visitors to Geelong After Dark will board a train to the past, exploring the city’s industrial history through an immersive art installation.

Industry Tracks is an audio-visual artwork from the #VacantGeelong team at Deakin University.

#VacantGeelong project leader Dr Mirjana Lozanovska, a senior lecturer in Deakin’s School of Architecture and Built Environment, said Friday night’s work was an extension of a wider project to reimagine Geelong’s industrial heritage.

Industry Tracks evokes the sounds, views, atmosphere and memories of train travel through the industrial areas of northern Geelong,” Dr Lozanovska said.

“The project’s sights and sounds blend the past, present and future of industry and its immense contribution to the culture of Geelong.”

Visitors will be able to experience the installation at stop 66 on the Geelong After Dark program, with the screening at Brearsley Lane, beside the Waterfront Cafeteria from 6pm to 10pm.

The #VacantGeelong team are also working towards a major exhibition to be held at the National Wool Museum in August.

Five professional artists have been enlisted to create works inspired by Geelong’s industrial spaces, with a work in progress exhibition planned at the project’s North Geelong studio on 24 May.
