Professor Karen Hapgood
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment & Group Leader
Karen is the Executive Dean of the Faculty of SEBE at Deakin University. This also includes the Schools of Life & Environmental Science, Engineering, Information Technology and Architecture & Built Environment and research centres A2I2 and CeRFF. She is an industry focussed engineering researcher with expertise in granulation and agglomeration of powders, including 5 years of pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing experience. Expert witness in pharmaceutical patent cases and passionate advocate of diversity and STEM.
Professor David Morton
Associate Head of School (Industry Engagement)
David is a recognised global expert in applied powder technology and product development, and brings R&D experience from positions in industry, start-ups, regulatory and research institutes. David is also passionate innovator in university-industry partnerships, with BHERT awards for leading the GSK -Monash CoI2, recognizing a unique approach to these relationships. David joined Deakin University in 2018, to focus on powder materials development across a range of applications including additive manufacturing and in mentoring industry engagement and partnerships in the engineering school. He has authored over 35 patent applications families and over 100 peer-reviewed academic publications.
Dr Negin Amini
Research Fellow
Negin is a Research Fellow in the School of Engineering at Deakin University. She is a chemical engineer with a PhD on “Microwave-assisted pretreatment of woody biomass” from Monash University. Negin manages multiple projects and ensures the group deliverables are met on time. Her research interests are on photoelastic behaviour of 3D printed particles and using Discrete Element Methods to validate agglomerate breakage & particle flow.
Dr Rechana Remadevi
Research Fellow
Rechana received her PhD in Materials Engineering from the Institute for Frontier Materials, Deakin University, Australia. She has completed a bachelors and Master’s degree in Chemistry. In addition, she also has completed a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Rechana’s PhD thesis entitled “Improving the properties of cotton by amino acid treatment” was nominated for the Alfred Deakin gold medal. She has integrated her knowledge in chemistry with natural polymer materials and ventured into the field of bioplastics, sustainable wet processing techniques for polymer materials, powder technology, wet spinning, and protective functional coating techniques.
Mr Shishir Shekhar
PhD Candidate
Shishir is currently a first year PhD student in the School of Engineering at Deakin. His project is in colaboration with Data 61 group at CSIRO, working on the experimental and modelling of segregation of granular materials. He has completed his Master’s in Chemical Engineering from OVGU Magdeburg in Germany, with the thesis topic “Mimicking Behavior of Granular Materials using Continuum Mechanics”.
Mr Danni Suhaidi
PhD Candidate
Danni is currently a first year PhD student in the School of Engineering at Deakin. His project is on spray drying. He has completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science and Chemical Engineering with Honours from Monash University.
